Rapid replacement of 9 rail spans in the Guelph subdivision in Rockwood Ontario just outside of Guelph Ontario. Phase 1 one this project consisted of jacking each existing span and replacing the existing shoe plates and bearings. This was to facilitate partial demolition of the existing stone piers and abutments down to a new elevation to accommodate the new bridge depth. Phase 2 consisted of the removal and replacement of each span beginning Saturday mornings, with completion by Monday morning at 5AM. 2 bridge spans were removed and replaced each weekend. NRE was 4-6 hours ahead of schedule each weekend. All new bridge spans were staged on site, concrete decks were cast, lifting lugs, walkways & railings were install prior to each weekend work block. All existing railings and walkways were salvaged for future use for Metrolinx. 2 additional bridge spans near by were rehabbed and had railings and walkways added to them as a part of this project. A 650ton conventional crawler crane was utilized for removal of the existing spans and erection of the new spans. |
