The project consisted of an 8 story building erected between two existing heritage buildings in a busy urban downtown center. The challenges for this project were to maintain the structural integrity of the existing buildings, while erecting the new structure. The existing building walls were shored with a whaler and strut design, which had to be maintained until the new structure was completed. The street front heritage wall façade was also shored and maintained throughout construction. The soil conditions were poor, which resulted in deep caissons and heavy steel grade beams to support the super structure. |
